Edgecomb County, NC — Two children were killed in an accident that took place in Edgecomb County, North Carolina, on Sunday, November 30, 2014.
Alan Thompson was the driver of the vehicle that crossed over the road’s center line and crashed into an oncoming vehicle being driven by Randy Collins. Collins was injured in the accident and taken to Vidant Medical Center. His wife, who was not named, died in the accident.
Thompson, along with his two children, Christian Thompson and Mickeyla Little, also died in the accident.
What caused the accident is unclear at this time, and authorities are currently investigating.

Commentary
A lot of people are going to look at this accident and assume the driver of the first vehicle did something to cause it. I think that would be a mistake. I prefer to give people to benefit of the doubt, and in my time practicing law, have seen many accidents that looked just like this one, and turned out to have been caused by something other than driver error. Hopefully, the police investigation will be able to shed some light on what happened here in the coming days.
