Johnston, CO — Two people were killed on Monday night near the area of Johnstown on I-25, police said, after their car rolled over. Killed in the accident were Mercedes Parker, 14, and Devin Gomez, 21.
According to the news reports, Devin Gomez was driving a Ford Explorer SUV along I-25 this past Monday night (December 1, 2014) with Mercedes Parker, 42-year old Melanie Landrum-Guillory, and 14-year old Aliana Guillory as passengers. As their SUV headed south along I-25 that night, Gomez lost control for unknown reasons and swerved across the center lines into oncoming traffic.
The SUV then lost traction and flipped over at least once, coming to a rest on the side of I-25. The accident ejected Mercedes Parker from her seat, killing both her and Devin Gomez immediately.
The others were taken to local hospitals, and Aliana Guillory sustained the most serious injuries. Apparently, she was also ejected from the SUV in the wreck. Right now, it’s not clear why Gomez lost control of his vehicle that night, but it’s being investigated some more. Police noted that alcohol and drugs are not being considered.
