Commentary:
One news report I see said that the plane was registered to a company at the time of the crash. What could this mean? Well, if a closer look shows that the plane went down to do a mechanical problem or the company hired an unqualified pilot, the company could be liable for allowing their craft to fall into disrepair, or allowing an inexperienced pilot to man the helm. There are a lot of details about this accident that need to be looked into, and the National Transportation Safety Board is going to investigate, but they sometimes take a whole year to complete an investigation. For surviving families, a year is too long to have unanswered questions. However, conducting your own investigation could yield answers much, much faster than a backlogged government agency can.
