Hockley County, TX — One woman was killed and a second was injured in a single-vehicle accident that took place in Hockley County, Texas, on Friday, November 28, 2014. The accident took place on Alamo Road.
Police say that Gloria Almager was speeding and lost control of her vehicle. The car rolled, ejecting her out onto the road. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Almager had a passenger in her car at the time. Alyssa Basquez was wearing a seat belt and survived the accident. Emergency workers treated her at the scene, and she was released.

Speaking strictly from a liability standpoint, drivers don’t only have a responsibility to others out on the road, but to those they’re driving with. A driver owes his passenger(s) a duty to create and to maintain a safe environment while they’re traveling together. If an accident occurs because a driver was engaging in unsafe activities, then any injuries resulting from that accident could be said to have been caused through the driver’s negligence, making them responsible.
