Commentary:

The news report did not specify at what time the accident happened, but from the few clues in the report and the video, it seems that the accident may have taken place late at night, or in the very early morning hours. If this turns out to be the case, with the case of crossover accidents, I really believe that alcohol needs to be investigated. It is an unfortunate fact that Texas leads all 50 states in the number of fatal drunk driving accidents, and the vast majority of those came from bars. If this turns out to be what happened here, I’d be tracking down the bar the driver came from and hold them liable for failing to serve alcohol responsibly, something they promise to do when they get their liquor license. Now, it is perfectly possible that the driver of the pickup simply fell asleep at the late hour, it happens all the time. But if the bar played an accomplice to a drunk driving accidents, shouldn’t they be investigated and held accountable too?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
