Gungeet Bajwa Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on New York State Thruway in Rochester, NY

Rochester, NY — An accident on the New York State Thruway near Rochester, New York, sent a young man to the hospital on Saturday, November 22, 2014. The accident took place around 2:15 in the afternoon.

Reports say that Gungeet Bajwa crashed his Toyota Camry into two semi-trucks on the highway. Investigators said the accident happened after Bajwa crossed the roads center line, striking the trucks between exits 45 and 46.

Bajwa’s vehicle drove directly between the two trucks, tearing apart and sending it into a ditch on the side of the road. Emergency workers took 20-25 minutes to extract Bajwa from his vehicle before transporting him to Strong Memorial Hospital.

He was alone in his car at the time, and no other injuries were reported. Police are continuing to investigate, as what caused Bajwa to drive into oncoming traffic is unclear.

I know a lot of people are going to look at an accident like this and assume the driver was the one who put himself in the hospital. All I can say is that, in my years of looking at accidents like this, I’ve plenty of accidents that looked exactly the same at the start, but after they’re investigated it turns out there was something wrong with the car, or some other kind of defect that set the whole accident into motion. I have no reason to believe that couldn’t be the case here. Until all the facts are in, it’s best to hold off judgement.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
