One Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Interstat 25 in Windsor, Colorado

WINDSOR, CO — A truck driver was killed after a tractor-trailer rollover accident that happened in Windsor, Colorado on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014. The article from CBS Local said that the accident happened just north of Loveland.

Police said that one person died when the tractor-trailer hauling eggs that they were driving crashed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25. Authorities handling the accident investigation said that the truck drove off the road and rolled onto the driver’s side for reasons currently under investigation.

The truck driver was cut from the vehicle before being taken by EMS personnel to Medical Center of the Rockies where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol is helping with the accident investigation.

Scene of the Accident

People always seem to be surprised to learn that truck drivers don’t fare well in single-vehicle accidents with tractor-trailers. The common consensus tends to be that because the truck is large that it is some kind of indestructible fortress for the passengers, when in reality, most of these tractor-trailers and commercial trucks are not even fitted with airbags. Now we could easily talk at-length about what caused the accident, but I’m more concerned with what factor made the accident as bad as it was, and something in my gut tells me it was the design or construction of the truck. While these trucks tend to be rigid and heavy on the bottom, they also tend to be light and flimsy with everything above the wheels. If the flimsy construction of the passenger compartment turned a bad accident into a fatal one, then the truck’s manufacturer could bear some of the liability. All it would take to find out is the right pair of eyes looking in the right places.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
