Medway, MA — Two children were hospitalized when a dump truck came into their lane and crashed into the YMCA bus they were riding in in Medway, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. The accident took place at the intersection of Main and Lincoln streets, around 8:00 in the morning.
Police say the YMCA bus the children were riding in was turning left onto Main Street when the accident occurred. The two children, an 8-year old girl and a 7-year old boy, were both taken to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center. There’s been no information on their condition.
The driver of the bus was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Commentary
From what’s been reported, it doesn’t seem as if the dump truck really did anything wrong. I’m much more interested in what the YMCA van was doing before the crash. If the van was making a left-hand turn, it had to turn in front of the truck. Why didn’t the van yield to the dump truck and wait for it to pass before turning? If it’s found that the driver of the van wasn’t paying proper attention to the road, the YMCA is going to find itself being asked some very hard questions. Luckily, this accident wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.
