Lighthouse Point, FL — Last Sunday morning, there was a wreck between two cars on Federal Highway that left one driver paralyzed and the other facing alleged DUI charges. The accident happened along Federal Highway, north of Sample Road, and the driver who was paralyzed was identified as 55-year old Kim Smith.
Police said that 29-year old Michael Anguille was driving north along Federal Highway early Sunday morning in a Nissan Altima. As he swerved into another lane, he crashed into Kim Smith’s SUV, which was also headed north.
The collision caused Smith’s car to fishtail and lose control. Her SUV flipped over, hit the median, and struck a tree before coming to rest. The accident critically injured Smith and slightly injured Anguille.
Both were taken to a nearby hospital that morning, where Smith was listed in intensive care for potential brain injuries. Doctors later said that Smith was paralyzed as a result of the wreck.
Anguille was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested by local law enforcement. Allegedly, he has two prior DUI arrested from earlier this year and from 2011.
This is still being investigated.
