SAN PEDRO, CA — Two people were rushed to the hospital after a major tractor-trailer accident that was reported in San Pedro, California on Tuesday, October 14th, 2014. The article released by KTLA said that the crash happened just after 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Los Angeles Fire officials said that two people were taken to the hospital after a tractor-trailer and a black Hyundai collided on the 110 Freeway. California Highway Patrol representatives familiar with details of the accident said that they believe the accident happened when a truck left the lanes of traffic and struck a guardrail before it veered and hit the Hyundai. The photos from the scene show the sedan nearly completely crushed by the trailer.
Two people had to be cut from the vehicle and were taken to the hospital.
The investigation into the accident is being handled by officials from local police as well as the CHP.

Commentary:
Judging from the photos of the accident scene, I’m stunned nobody was killed in the accident. One news report I see said that the truck sheared against a guardrail in a curve, which tells me the truck was either going too fast for the bend in the road, or he was not paying attention to the road at the time of the accident. Now, this driver probably knows he messed up, and so do his bosses, so I’d be willing to bet that the trucking company is already formulating its damage control strategy and devising ways to ensure that this accident is going to effect their bottom line as little as possible.
I don’t think I need to tell anybody that this driver messed up, but the reason this accident happened may be a little bit more complex. On the surface it looks like the trucker just drove out of his lane, but if we looked harder, what might we find? Conducting an investigation of your own could show that the driver had been on the road far too long, or possibly that he was surfing on his phone when he drove out of the traffic lanes, but with the trucking company already devising counter-tactics, acting quickly is always in the best interest of victims when it comes to safeguarding their legal rights.
