SAN MATEO, CA — Both Joseph and Anna Stivala died after an accident between a van and a SamTrans bus that happened in San Mateo, California on Friday, September 26th, 2014. The article from CBS San Francisco said the accident happened around 12:45 Friday afternoon.
84-year-old Joseph Stivala and his wife, 79-year-old Anna Stivala were killed when the van they were in and a SamTrans bus collided while driving on El Camino Real near the intersection with 12th Avenue. Authorities suspect the van the Stivalas were in drove over the center line of the road where it struck the SamTrans bus head-on.
Anna Stivala died instantly in the accident, while Joseph Stivala was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Five people on the SamTrans bus sustained unspecified injuries.
Police are still trying to determine what caused the accident.
