Archuleta County, CO — A man was killed after a collision with a semi-trailer loaded with coal on U.S. 160 in Archuleta County, Colorado, on Sunday, September 28, 2014. The accident happened around 1:00 in the morning.
The name of the victim hasn’t been released. Police found his car at the bottom of an embankment, 100 feet off the road. The collision had caused the car to catch fire, and the burns suffered by the driver, along with the injuries he sustained in the accident, proved to be fatal.
There were two people inside the coal truck at the time. Both sustained minor injuries, and emergency workers transported one to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
The collision also caused the semi-trailer to catch fire, with the fire spreading to the coals. Reports say that special equipment had to be brought in to take the truck apart and put out the flames.
Police continue to investigate. The cause of the accident isn’t clear at this time.
