Dump Truck Involved in Pileup Accident in Gig Harbor on Route 16 that Injures Many

Gig Harbor, WA — There were two major pileup accidents this past Tuesday (September 23, 2014) that left several people injured, including one person with critical injuries. Police said that both accidents happened on Tuesday afternoon along Route 16, near the Tremont in Port Orchard and Wollechet in Gig Harbor.

The first accident happened in Gig Harbor, where a semi-truck overturned and lost the dirt load it was carrying. This happened on Route 16 near the Wollochet exit. The truck took up all the lanes of traffic, causing one SUV to lose control and overturn. Two people were taken to hospitals in that accident, both in serious condition.

The second accident happened along Route 16 in Port Orchard, at the Tremont exit. An SUV had gotten into an accident while trying to enter the highway, police said, which caused traffic to slow down.

As the traffic slowed down, a dump truck crashed into the cars and critically injured at least one person. One other person was taken to a hospital as well, but their condition wasn’t listed.

Police said they’re investigating both crashes.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
