Harlingen, TX — A student was taken to the hospital following an accident between two school buses in Harlingen, Texas, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The accident took place on Wilson Road, near Frontage Road.
Officials say that a school bus belonging to the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District stopped at a railroad crossing, and another school bus traveling behind it failed to slow down and crashed into it.
A spokesman with the school district has said that it’s standard procedure to give their drivers a drug test whenever accidents like this occur.
47 students were on the two buses at the time. One complained of back pain and was taken to the hospital. The student’s name was not released.

Commentary
We hold the drivers of commercial vehicles to a higher standard than we do other drivers. The vehicles they drive are bigger, and are capable of causing a lot more damage. You would think that we would hold school bus drivers to an even higher standard than that, as they’re transporting children. It’s amazing to me that despite that fact, there are some individuals out there who can’t do something simple like keep their eyes on the road ahead of them, which, when you think about it, is the single most important part of their job. In situations like these I have to ask, if the driver wasn’t paying attention to the road, what else aren’t they paying attention to? Luckily it seems as if everyone involved is going to be fine, because this very easily could have been much worse.
