Putnam, TX — A running back who played for McMurry University in Abilene was killed in a car accident outside of Putnam, Texas, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. The accident took place on Interstate 20, around six in the evening.
Billy Cole was traveling along 20 when he drove off the side of the road and over-corrected. This brought him into oncoming traffic, where he crashed into a van. Cole was taken to Palo Pinto General Hospital and pronounced dead.
The driver of the van was critically injured and taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He has been identified as Jesus Fierros.
At this time, the cause of the accident is unclear. Police are currently investigating.
