Commentary
This is one of those accidents where we’d want to look at Qualcomm data from the tractor-trailer. How long had the driver been on the road? The accident happened around 5:15 in the morning. It’s very possible the driver just hadn’t enough sleep. Unfortunately, there’s a lot about trucking culture that forces drivers to make bad decisions like this. Drivers are under more and more pressure to make deliveries in shorter amounts of time, and they’re typically only considered to be on the clock when their wheels are moving. I’m not saying that that’s definitely what happened here, but given the circumstances, it’s something that definitely needs to be looked into.
