Deming, NM –The driver of an 18-wheeler was injured in an accident near Deming, New Mexico, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. The accident took place near the Akela Flats exit on Interstate 10.
According to a witness, a wreck on Interstate 10 had caused traffic to back up. An 18-wheeler failed to slow down for the vehicles ahead of it and crashed into the back of another 18-wheeler. The collision caused the first 18-wheeler to go off of the interstate and onto the frontage road.
Shawna Reinhold, an EMT responding to the accident, reported that the driver of the truck that was hit seemed to be alright, while the driver of the first 18-wheeler was in “rough shape.” He was taken to a local hospital.
The accident is still under investigation.
