Justice Sampson Injured in Single-Vehicle Wreck on FM 2264 in Wise County, Texas

Wise County, TX — Two people were injured when a driver drove off-road and rolled his vehicle into a ditch. The accident took place on Farm to Market Road 2264 in Wise County, Texas, around 1:30 in the afternoon.

Timothy Dennis was traveling with Justice Sampson when he swerved to avoid hitting a rock in the road. Over-correcting, he flipped the car onto its side and into a ditch off the side of the road.

Both Dennis and Sampson were taken to Wise Regional Health System, Dennis with neck injuries and Sampson with spinal injuries.

Speaking to news outlets, state trooper Patrick Alonzo has credited Dennis’ over-correcting as the main cause of the accident.

So, we have an accident involving two teenagers, in which speed is being ruled out as the primary contributing factor. That’s a statement I’d be a little hesitant to make. Yes, if the driver had not over-corrected the way he did, the accident wouldn’t have happened. But it’s also very possible that had he not been speeding, he wouldn’t have needed to so drastically over-correct.

Drivers owe a duty to those they’re transporting to create and maintain a safe driving environment. There are still some things about this accident we don’t know, so it’s possible we’re looking at things the wrong way, but it sounds like the driver may not have been living up to that responsibility. And if that turns out to be the case, he’s going to be liable for his passenger’s injuries.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
