UPSHUR COUNTY, TX –A car accident claimed the lives of two people in Upshur County, Texas on Thursday, July 17th, 2014, according to the news report released by KLTV.

Investigators think that Brody Stuart was killed when the vehicle he was driving is believed to have been struck by a vehicle that hydroplaned while driving on Highway 154 around 8:00 Thursday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Brody Stuart was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. Another passenger in Stuarts vehicle was identified as Haley Blackstone, who was seriously injured in the crash.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department is helping with the crash investigation at this time, and hope to release more information soon.

Commentary:

Details about this accident in the news are pretty thin, but there is one common thread in the reports that I see that raises an eyebrow. The fact that the other driver hydroplaned in wet roads could mean that they were driving too fast for conditions, which could mean they could be liable for the accident, but again, this depends on how the final report looks.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
