CLAYTON, NC — One passenger died after a single-vehicle crash that happened in Clayton, North Carolina on Wednesday, July 16th, 2014, according to the news article released by WRAL.
Authorities think that 86-year-old Ruby Walters was killed when the vehicle in which she was a passenger is thought to have rolled through a stop sign and collided with a drainage culvert for reasons currently under investigation while driving through the intersection of Barber Mill Road and Dairy Road around 7:00 Wednesday morning.

Ruby Walters was transported by EMS personnel to nearby WakeMed Hospital where she died. The driver of the vehicle was identified in the news report as Sandra Culhane, who was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
Officials from the Clayton Police Department are trying to determine what may have sparked the crash.
Commentary:
While the police are still combing through the details of this accident, just from what I see circulating in the news about the accident, the driver of the vehicle could have a negligence claim against them if they are found to have run the light as the news suggests. Again, a great deal of this rests on the veracity of the news, but this accident could definitely use a closer look.
