Bloomsburg, PA — A chain reaction accident caused by a garbage truck injured several people in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, on Monday, June 30, 2014. The accident took place on Interstate 80, around 1:15 in the afternoon.
Police have identified William Boettinger as the driver of a garbage truck that crashed into backed up traffic at a construction zone. Boettinger crashed into an 18-wheeler, which in turn collided with a car and an SUV. Boettinger was killed in the accident.
Brittany Driscoll was the driver of the SUV, and suffered moderate injuries. She was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Dannville. Other injuries sustained in the accident were reported to be minor.

A very unfortunate accident. Right now, police are investigating what happened, and it’s still not clear what caused the accident. It’s possible that the driver just wasn’t paying attention to the road ahead of him, and didn’t see that traffic had backed up until it was too late. It’s also possible that he had some sort of medical emergency, and that caused the accident. There are several possibilities. However, unless there’s some crucial piece of evidence the authorities turn up in their investigation, the trucking company is going to be held liable for the accident. Despite their driver crashing into traffic, they will mostly likely still defend the case. With the amount of insurance companies are required to carry on their vehicles, they’re forced to protect their bottom line. However, with this very obviously being the fault of the driver, it’s going to be hard for the trucking company to place blame on anyone else.
