7-Year Old Girl Found at the Bottom of Swimming Pool in Diaz Park in Robstown, Texas

Robstown, TX — The fate of a 7-year old girl is unclear after she was found at the bottom of a swimming pool on Sunday, June 29, 2014. The pool is located at Diaz Park in Robstown, Texas. The girl’s family was having a party in the park when the accident occurred.

Once the girl was discovered, she was rushed to Northwest Hospital in Calallen before being taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

There’s been no update on the girl’s condition.

Officials say lifeguards were on duty when the accident took place.

Let’s start out with a question. If a tornado comes through a small town and levels your house, do you blame the tornado, or the siren operator who fell asleep on the job and didn’t alert people to the danger in time? Obviously, your house was going to be leveled no matter when you heard the alarm. The operator couldn’t prevent the ultimate outcome, but he really didn’t do anything to make it better.

We have a similar situation here. It’s possible that the lifeguards on duty just could not have prevented this accident, but from what’s been reported, they didn’t seem to do anything to make it better. From what I’ve read, they didn’t even attempt a rescue, which is kind of their entire point for being there. So there are some questions we need to ask. Who were these lifeguards? Had they been privately contracted? What kind of training had they received? Someone fell down on the job here, and because of it, a little girl’s life is in danger, so they’ve got some explaining to do.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
