Hancock County, IN — Mark Evans has been identified as one of two men injured in an 18-wheeler accident in Hancock County, Indiana, on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
The accident took place when Evans and Willie Pittman, both employees of the Indiana Department of Transportation, were removing interstate reflectors near the 103 mile marker. An 18-wheeler attempting to drive around traffic on the road moved into their lane and rear-ended their vehicle.
The driver of the 18-wheeler has been identified as Daniel Kebebe.
Evans was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He’s been listed in good condition.
The accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident have said that it didn’t seem as if the truck hit his brakes at any point before the collision. If that’s the case, the first question I have to ask is, was he paying attention to the road?
I don’t want to throw the truck driver under the bus. The accident is still being investigated, and something like a mechanical failure in the truck is a very real possibility, but from what’s being presented to us, we have to look at the most likely explanation. Reports indicate that the driver switched lanes because he was trying to move around traffic. He moved into the workers’ lane, then crashed into them.
If the police investigation into the accident finds that the fault lies with the 18-wheeler, then the two men who were injured will have a right to try and recover damages. As things stand now, there are questions the truck driver needs to answer.
