Anderson County, KY — Authorities are reporting an accident between a school bus and a semi-truck in Anderson County, Kentucky, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The accident took place on U.S. Route 127, about a mile south of Carlton Drive.
According to the report, the bus had stopped to pick up a student when it was rear-ended. Only two students were on the bus at the time.
The names of those involved in the accident and the extent of any injuries has not been released.
At this time, it’s unknown if speed was a contributing factor in the accident. The accident is still being investigated.

Reports indicate that the semi-truck rear-ended the school bus, so let’s assume that the accident is the truck’s fault. Let’s also assume that the driver is going to claim that the bus came to sudden stop, giving him no time to slow down. The speed limit on this stretch of road is 55 mph, so I can understand that the semi-truck would have some speed behind it. Still, if the truck driver was going the speed limit and traveling a safe distance behind the bus, it would have been very difficult to get into an accident. And we’re all familiar with school buses and how they move. We know that they don’t exactly stop on a dime.
Is it conceivable that the bus stopped to suddenly and the truck driver didn’t have any time to react? Yes, it’s possible. It’s also possible, and much more likely based on what I’ve seen in the past, that the truck driver wasn’t paying as much attention to the road as he could have been, and that caused the accident.
