AURORA, IL — One man was taken to the hospital after a pedestrian accident that happened in Aurora, Illinois on Thursday, May 1st, 2014, according to a news report from The Beacon News.
Authorities believe that an as-of-yet unidentified pedestrian was hurt when they were struck by a vehicle when they were walking along or trying to cross the intersection of Oliver and Arnold Avenue around 6:30 Thursday night.

The pedestrian was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where an update on their condition was immediately unavailable.
The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing.
Commentary:
Based on what I’m reading here, there is probably not a whole lot the pedestrian can do in his situation, unless the driver saw him a long way off before the accident. As a driver, when a pedestrian is spotted in the road outside of a marked crosswalk, the driver has an obligation to avoid hitting them. Right-of-way or not, this does not entitle you to hit a pedestrian with your car. Additionally, if the driver was turning off a stop and hit the victim, the driver may have failed to check to see if his path was clear before turning, putting them at least partially to blame for the accident
