Commentary:
If the dangers of tractor-trailers were not clear to people, accidents like this should serve as a reminder. Drivers need to remember, and be cognizant that truck drivers, while not all bad, are subject to the same distractions and exhaustion that every other driver on the road faces every day. Just the other day I saw an expose on truckers that had hidden cameras capturing truck drivers texting, eating, and looking around the cabin of the vehicle while it is in motion. This was not a small number of vehicles, but nearly every commercial truck that drove by. If a distracted driver caused the accident, the company that employs them would be liable for the accident depending on the facts surrounding the case.
