Commentary:
The news article suggests that the victim in this accident failed to yield to the right of way, but people sometimes need a reminder how these articles are written. For the most part, preliminary news articles are drafted off of police report copies. Contrary to popular belief, these police reports are not written by trained accident investigation professionals, but are instead written by police officers, who often times have a higher priority in clearing the roadway for traffic than getting an accurate picture of what actually happened in the accident. Police reports are not the definitive end-word in accident investigations, but are instead only part of the equation.
