Commentary:
Many people wrongly base their opinions on these types of news articles, when in reality they are based in large part on the police reports taken from the scene. Unfortunately, the people who write these reports are multi-disciplined enforcers of the law, and not trained accident investigation personnel. Often times the police are rushing to another call, or worrying about getting the road cleared, versus an accurate report of what actually transpired. It is for this reason that people should conduct their independent investigations that may add, or even refute statements written by police in their reports. Police reports are only part of the equation, not the end-all-be-all last word, and it is always helpful to add to the information to find the truth about these kinds of collisions.
