One Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident on South Presa Street in San Antonio, Texas

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A serious accident left one person hurt in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, March 29th, 2014, according to the news article from My San Antonio.

Investigators have reason to believe one person was hurt when the bike he was riding was struck by an SUV while driving on South Presa Street around 11:15 Saturday evening. The SUV fled the scene after the accident.

Scene of the Accident:

One person sustained unspecified injuries in the accident.

Authorities are currently looking for a black Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a Harley-Davidson sticker on the back window.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Commentary:

People leave the scene of accidents for many reasons. Sometimes they are hit with an initial, overwhelming panic and the fight-or-flight response kicks in, and they drive away, only to return soon after the accident to take responsibility. The other reason people tend to run is they have something to hide, and judging by the late hour at which this occurred on a Saturday night, there is a high likelihood that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Many people believe this would be a dead end, but if the driver was found, and officers find a big bar tab on his purchases for that night, the bar he was at could bear some liability for the accident if the driver was over served. I strongly believe that punishing bars that fuel drunk drivers, while punishing the drunk driver themselves is the only way to responsibly address the drunk driving problem in the State of Texas.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
