Commentary:
Car accidents with multiple vehicles and multiple victims can be chaotic to say the least. The divvying up of fault and liability can get extremely messy and muddled while people are frazzled after a crash. Lawmakers knew this when they designed ‘comparative fault’ which takes most of the fault/liability guesswork out of the hands of victims and police by leaving it up to a jury. The jury then divides the accident fault by percentage points based on who they feel caused what percentage of the accident. For instance, if you caused an accident whose damages reach one hundred dollars, and you are found to be at fault for half the accident, you would owe fifty dollars in damages. Granted this example is extremely simplified, but this is the general idea.
