ST MARY PARISH, LA — A tractor-trailer accident left one person in the hospital in St Mary Parish, Louisiana on Sunday, March 30th, 2014, according to a news release from KATC.
Investigators have said that they believe one person was hurt when a pickup truck collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer that authorities think had faulty brake lights while driving on Highway 90 around 9:30 on Sunday morning.
Scene of the Accident
One person was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where he was last listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing.
Commentary:
If the news report is accurate when it says that the truck had failed brake lights when the accident occurred, the trucking company may be facing some very serious liability questions. Many people do not stop to think that tractor-trailers suffer from the exact same mechanical problems that regular cars are afflicted with. Tires blow out, power steering can fail, and brake lights blink out. Any of these mechanical problems have the potential to cause accidents, let alone when a vehicle that weighs eighty-thousand pounds suffers the same problem. Trucking companies are responsible for the maintenance on their vehicles, and for accidents when they neglect fixing their vehicles.
