AUSTIN, TX — Three people were sent to the hospital after a major accident that happened in in Austin, Texas on Saturday, April 5th, 2014, according to a news report from My Fox Austin.
Police familiar with details of the crash investigation have said three people were hurt when they were struck by a vehicle when they were walking along or trying to cross Cesar Chavez Road.
Scene of the Accident
Three people people were taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the vehicle did not stay on the scene, but was apprehended a short distance from the accident.
Authorities have since charged the offending driver with drunk driving related charges in connection with the accident.
Austin Police are still investigating.

Many people are unaware of Texas’ liquor liability laws, and how they may relate to an alcohol related accident. The State of Texas is lucky enough to have what we in the legal industry call ‘dram shop laws’, which oversee the safe sale and service of alcohol at places like bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and nightclubs. If a driver is found to have been drunk at the time of an accident, and that driver had left a bar that served them too much to drink or served them despite obvious drunkenness, then the bar responsible for their safe service could be held liable for the accident for failing their duty to the public to not create dangers with negligent service.
