One Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Interstate 85 in Davidson County, North Carolina

DAVIDSON COUNTY, TX — A single-vehicle tractor-trailer accident left one truck driver dead in Davidson County, North Carolina on Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, according to a news report from The Davidson County Dispatch.

Authorities have said that they have reason to believe one person was killed when the tractor-trailer they were driving experienced a loss of control while driving northbound on Interstate 85. The truck ran off the road before hitting a tree on an incline and erupting into flames. The accident happened around 4:00 in the afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

The truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency response personnel when they arrived. It is not immediately clear if they were alone in the vehicle, but no other injuries were detailed in the news report.

The investigation is currently being handled by officials from the North Carolina State Police.

Scene of the Accident

People often have a habit of blaming victims based on news articles written by people who did not witness the accident. Many people may immediately see fault in the truck driver, but they would be doing so without having all the facts. Where some would see the possibility of an inattentive driver, I see the possibility of faulty mechanics. As you’re probably aware, commercial vehicles have similar parts and systems that regular cars have, only they are larger and more complex due to the inherent size of commercial vehicles. In addition, these parts are exposed to harsher conditions and lifespans compared to their smaller, civilian counterparts. Just as on your car, brakes can wear out and fail, tires can burst, and power steering can give out. All of these could lead to the described accident above, and just as you would be held accountable if neglected maintenance caused an accident in your car.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
