POLK COUNTY, WI — A two-vehicle accident left one woman dead in Polk County, WI on Friday, March 21st, 2014, according to a news report from The Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
Police have said that they have reason to believe 61 year-old Cynthia Throngard was killed when the Chrysler PT Cruiser she was driving skidded in snowy conditions into the lanes of oncoming traffic where it collided with a tractor-trailer while driving on Highway 87. The accident happened around 10:20 in the morning on Friday.

Authorities pronounced Cynthia Throngard dead on the scene when they arrived. The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified in the report as 44-year-old Brian Louis, who did not report immediate injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the crash is being handled by officials from the Wisconsin State Police.
Commentary:
Any type of accident with a commercial vehicle can be a complex and intimidating situation. Trucking companies usually have a great deal more resources with which to defend themselves with. Even in situations where an accident is clearly the fault of a commercial truck driver, the entities defending them will do all they can to shift some of the liability onto the victims, and while they may only be seemingly insignificant percentages, these small figures can translate to a great deal of money when it comes to reparations. Always bear in mind that trucking companies are not in business to take responsibility for accidents, they are in the business of padding and defending their bottom line.
