Sterling Township, WI — Cynthia L. Throngard, a 61-year-old woman from Grantsburg, Wisconsin, died on March 24 after losing control of her car on State Highway 87 near 250th Ave. She crossed over into oncoming traffic and was struck by a semi-truck.
Throngard was pronounced dead at the scene. Brian Louis, the driver of the tractor trailer, was not injured. Police have cited the weather as the primary cause of the accident.

Commentary
If news reports on this are to be believed, then I could see how it would be pretty easy to assume that the accident was Mrs. Throngard’s fault. Perhaps she wasn’t paying enough attention to the road, or misjudged exactly how bad conditions outside were. Still, I think this approach assumes a few things. One is that there were no other issues with her car. Were there any bald tires, or perhaps something wrong with the steering? Another thing to take into account is how fast the truck that ultimately killed her was driving? Was it going an unsafe speed? In any case, I hate to rush to judgement and unfairly blame someone for an accident that wasn’t their fault.
