Pradaxa Linked to Internal Bleeding, Ranks High on FDA's Adverse Reports List
According to the FDA, the blood thinner Pradaxa has been linked with severe risks like internal bleeding, hemorrhages, and other issues. In December 2011, the FDA said they were launching a safety review of the blood thinning drug, following only 14 months on the market. After reports surfaced questioning the safety of Pradaxa, its manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim, has begun an internal investigation.
Commentary While I'm glad to see two separate investigations into the drug Pradaxa, the problem is that these things move very slowly. I would guess we do not see the results of either this year. On the other hand, the problems associated with the drug continue to linger. If a victim believes they have been harmed by Pradaxa, typically a third party investigation would need to be used to tie the victim's injuries with the use of the prescription. Defense attorneys in products cases will typically try to shift side effects or injuries to another entity entirely.
