Slalom Glider Children's Slides Recalled Due to Fall Hazard
According to the manufacturer, Landscape Structures Inc. is set to recall roughly 900 Slalom Glider children's slides, due to a fall hazard. The slides lack a transition point between the platform at the top of the slide and the slide itself. Children can fall while moving between the ladder and the slide. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer are aware of 16 separate incidents resulting in injury from the slide, including a bruised arm, 14 arm or leg fractures, one fractured collar bone, and one bruised spleen. Landscape Structures can be reached at (888) 438-6574.
Commentary I would say that the number of injuries compared with the size of the recall is disproportionate. Parents should be aware of the equipment at their child's school or playground and more than likely alert the owner of the equipment. In many product liability matters, damages are not to the extent that warrant a lawsuit. In other words, minor scrapes, perhaps bruising, etc. may not make financial sense to bring a claim against a manufacturer. On the other hand, some of these reported injuries like broken bones, a fractured collar bone or a bruised spleen may make sense, as damages are such that they would more than likely outweigh court costs.
