STIHL Set to Recall Chain Saws Due to Risk of Injury
According to the manufacturer, STIHL Inc. is set to recall roughly 3,000 MS 391 chain saws due to an injury risk. The flywheel on the saw can break, causing parts of the flywheel to strike a user or bystanders nearby, posing a risk of injury. The saws in question were manufactured between March 2011 and July 2011. STIHL can be contacted at (800) 610-6677.
Commentary
Chain saws do not need to become any more dangerous, so my readers should pay particular attention to this recall. When a manufacturer becomes aware of a defect or flaw in one of their products, a recall is typically issued as a way to provide notice to the general public. The recall then, attempts to mitigate liability by clearing the market of the flawed product. However, problematic products still remain and could force a manufacturer to incur liability, should an accident occur due to this flaw.
