Kraft Foods Set to Recall 2.1 Million Packages of Tassimo Espresso Due to Burn Risk
According to the manufacturer, Kraft Foods is set to recall roughly 2.1 million packages of Tassimo espresso T Discs, due to a burn hazard. The discs can become clogged and spray dangerously hot liquid and coffee grounds onto consumers, posing a risk of burn. Kraft reports 21 separate incidents of the liquid spraying consumers, with 4 reports of second-degree burns. A 2-year-old girl from Canada experienced second-degree burns to her face. The discs were made between August 2011 and February 2012. Tassimo can be contacted at (866) 918-8763.
Commentary
This is quite a large recall and my readers should immediately take heed, as injuries have occurred from the product's use. In many instances, minor injuries like a scrape or cut do not typically warrant a claim against a manufacturer. However, when injuries like second-degree burns are experienced, medical bills and rehabilitation costs may make a defective product claim necessary. If an injury does occur, a meticulous third party investigation should be conducted to concretely link the injuries sustained to the product in question.
