Representatives from the Florida State Police have released the name of the individual killed in a road accident that took place in Deland, FL on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013, according to the News-Journal Online. Police currently have reason to suspect John Varga was killed when a tractor-trailer turned into his path unexpectedly while driving through the intersection of Old Daytona Road and Newport Avenue.
According to the report released by authorities, John Varga sustained massive injuries in the accident and died as a result. The driver of the tractor-trailer was later identified as Ervin Woodruff, who did not report immediate injuries stemming from the accident. The investigation into the accident remains active and ongoing by personnel from both local and state agencies.
Scene of the Accident
While the investigation into this accident is currently underway, I always recommend getting a good hard look at the truck-driver’s driving record, as well as the entire accident history of the trucking company. Often times, trucking firms hire drivers with problematic records, or even drug convictions at a lower pay than responsible drivers with clean records. A history of careless accidents in the trucking company’s driving record could show a pattern of negligent hiring practices. Dangerous truck drivers need to be made into a liability by holding the trucking companies that hire them liable for accidents they cause.
